‘Daily Show,’ ‘Morning Joe’ cancel Monday shows after Trump assassination attempt

Both “The Daily Show” and “Morning Joe” canceled episodes planned for Monday in the aftermath of the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump at a rally on Saturday.

Comedy Central announced the change late Sunday night when “The Daily Show” canceled its plans to broadcast from Milwaukee during this week’s Republican National Convention.

The satirical news show instead will air episodes from its New York City studio Tuesday to Thursday with its Monday episode, usually helmed this year by Jon Stewart, tossed.

The show had originally planned to tape three episodes from Milwaukee’s Marcus Performing Arts Center before a live episode on Thursday to coincide with the last night of the Republican convention. All four episodes had reportedly sold out.

In a social media post, the program apologized and cited “logistical issues and the evolving situation” for the change of plans and said it would “make those up in the coming weeks.”

“Morning Joe,” a flagship MSNBC politics roundtable program, was also pulled Monday in favor of continued breaking coverage of Saturday’s shooting that left one man dead and two injured.

Hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski reportedly agreed to the temporary benching.

The network said it would resume airing its top-rated show — which is reportedly watched by both Trump and President Joe Biden — on Tuesday at its usual 6 a.m. start time.

“Given the gravity and complexity of this unfolding story, [our channels] have remained in rolling breaking news coverage since Saturday evening,” NBCUniversal News Group said in a statement. “As we continue to cover this story into the week, the networks will continue to cross simulcast…so there is one news feed covering this developing situation.”
