Counselor arrested for sex abuse at Queens Police Athletic League after-school program

A 27-year-old man has been arrested for sexually molesting two young girls while working as a counselor six years ago at a Queens after-school program run by the Police Athletic League — and cops are trying to determine if there are more victims.

Aaron Gafur was busted July 13 for the alleged sexual abuse cops say took place inside the Police Athletic League’s Edward Byrne Center on Guy R. Brewer Blvd. near Foch Blvd. in South Jamaica between Sept. 11, 2017, and Feb. 16, 2018. This week the NYPD released photos of Gafur and asked any possible additional victims to come forward.

Gafur, who was about 20 at the time, allegedly molested two girls through their clothing while pulling them onto his lap on multiple occasions.

“Does that feel good?” he asked one of his victims, according to court documents.  The girls were about 12 and 13 at the time of the molestation, police sources said.

Gafur was a counselor for the Police Athletic Leage when the abuse took place. An email to the PAL for comment was not immediately returned Wednesday.

The suspect lives in Long Island City, according to cops.

The girls reported the abuse around the time it occurred, according to police sources. It was not immediately clear why it took so long to bring charges against Gafur.

Queens prosecutors charged Gafur with sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. He was ordered held on $50,000 bail, which he has since paid.

Police believe that Gafur may be responsible for other sexual abuse offenses and are asking anyone with information about past crimes he may have committed to reach out to Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
