Costa Blanca horror as British tourist injured after boat burst into flames

One British holidaymaker was among the three people injured in a horrific explosion involving a boat in a Spanish port.

The boat burst into huge flames during the morning of June 11 in Costa Blanca, a holiday hotspot adored by Briton.

Astonishing footage shows people rushing towards the boat after the flames erupted, which the police attributed to an explosion.

The blast happened in Cabo Roig, a popular expat and holiday town a short drive away from the city of Torrevieja.

The 37-year-old UK national, believed to have been a customer of a rental firm chartering the boat, was rushed to Torrevieja Hospital along with a 31-year-old Lithuanian woman after suffering facial burns.

The third person injured in this terrifying incident was a Spanish man aged 34.

The man, described locally as a workman who was cleaning the boat, was airlifted to a hospital in Valencia.

He is believed to have been the most affected by the blaze, reportedly suffering serious burns to the bottom half of his body.

Police said they are currently treating the horror fire on the boat as an accident.

A spokesman for the Civil Guard said: “An emergency response coordination centre received the alert just before 10am yesterday. The calls that came in said there had been a possible explosion on a pleasure boat in Cabo Roig port.

“Civil Guard officers based in nearby Pilar de la Horadada confirmed there had been an accidental explosion that had left three people injured when they arrived.

“They were a British man and a Lithuanian woman who were taken to Torrevieja Hospital and a Spanish man who was airlifted to Hospital de la Fe in Valencia. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.”

Among the theories regarding the explosion being looked into are a fuel spill or an engine failure.
