Faye Brookes, who plays Kate Connor, is set to be leaving Conation Street later this year. The actress is the latest cast member to announce her exit after Kym Marsh confirmed she would be bowing out as Michelle Connor and Tristan Gemmill said he would quitting as Robert Preston. Brookes announced her decision to leave the ITV soap on Twitter on April 30.
Why is Faye Brookes leaving Coronation Street?
In a heartfelt post to her 79,000 Twitter followers, she wrote: “Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it’s time for me to explore new opportunities, I’ve loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I’m off to pastures new. #kana #corrie.”
A spokesperson for ITV said: “Faye is a very talented actress who has put her all into the portrayal of Kate Connor for the past three and a half years, we wish her every success for the future.
“She will be on screen until early autumn and the door will be left open.”
The news comes not long after Kate was left bereft after her partner Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia) was killed in the Underworld Factory collapse.

Brookes’ departure comes as something of a surprise after she spoke to OK! magazine in April about her co-star Limbachia leaving.
She explained: “I was gutted to hear she wanted to leave but I support her decision completely.
“She was really scared about telling me because we’re both so invested in the characters, she said it felt like she was breaking up with me.
“I’ll miss her but we’re the best of friends and I’ve already seen her a couple of times since she left.”
She continued about Rana’s fate and her own future on the soap, saying: “Death was the only realistic way for Bhavna to leave because I’m not going anywhere.
WHO IS JANE HAZLEGROVE IN CORONATION STREET?
“I love my job and feel like I’ve only just begun to sink my teeth into Kate.”
Coronation Street fans will have to wait and see how Brookes’ exit storyline will pan out but it could well be linked to Rana’s death.
Kate has been struggling to cope with the loss of Rana, whom she was due to marry when tragedy struck and tore the couple asunder forever.
Brookes’ news came earlier this week and reports have now surfaced about Katie McGlynn potentially leaving the role of Sinead Tinker.
There were reports in The Sun suggesting she would be the latest star to leave with a source telling the publication: “Katie has just been nominated for a British Soap Award so it’s a big loss and not what bosses would have wanted to hear.
“She’s been central to a number of key storylines this last year or so and will need replacing urgently.”
However, an ITV spokesperson said: “Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen.
“This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers.”
Coronation Street continues on ITV tomorrow at 7.30pm & 8.30pm
