Cook ‘perfectly crispy’ bacon with the addition of a staple cupboard ingredient

Bacon sandwiches are the perfect weekend treat, and if you like your bacon crispy, there’s an ingredient you have to try.

TikTok sensation (@‌thechoppedcouple) shared a clever cooking tip that attracted the eyes of more than three million viewers.

On a mission to help people cook crispier bacon at home, the video came with the intriguing caption: “Do you flour your bacon?”

The social media star claimed that their tip “creates perfectly crispy bacon for BLTs by reducing the curling!”

To start, prepare a baking tray with either a silicone mat or some greaseproof paper then arrange the bacon rashers neatly side by side on the tray.

Next, grab a pinch of all-purpose flour, as used by @‌thechoppedcouple, and lightly dust it over the bacon.

While the exact cooking method wasn’t detailed, it’s assumed that the tray was then placed in the oven until the bacon reached the desired level of crispiness.

It remains unclear whether there’s a need to flip the bacon mid-way and sprinkle flour on the reverse side.

However, numerous users chimed in with their own twists, including shaking the bacon in a ziplock bag filled with flour to coat every inch evenly before grilling.

Others proposed using cornstarch instead, claiming it delivers an “even crispier” result.

One user, ‘TG’, swears by the flour technique but prefers frying the bacon in a pan: “We have always done it this way. Coat both sides lightly and fry.”

A second TikTok fan hailed it as the “best bacon ever” while a third exclaimed: “Ok this looks [like a] game changer.”

The thread was brimming with additional tips for anyone keen to up their crispy bacon game, including brushing bacon with maple syrup and a sprinkle of brown sugar.

Described as “candied bacon”, the sweet addition was given the nod of approval by another culinary enthusiast.

For those who prefer not to use an oven, popping the bacon into an air fryer can achieve the same desired crispiness.

Alternatively, boiling bacon in a frying pan with just a splash of water is another popular method for crunchy results.

The trick with water is that it “prevents the temperature from getting too high which gives the fat [on the bacon] the time to render out” leading to that perfect crunch.

As the water evaporates, the bacon crisps without the risk of overcooking or burning.
