Cleaner's 'all-natural' method for cleaning glass shower door – 'couldn't be simpler'

According to experts at The Maids, a professional cleaning service, an “all-natural DIY shower glass cleaner” is the best way forward.

They elaborated: “Many commercial cleaners remove mould, mildew, and soap residue with harsh chemicals that can be unhealthy.

“However, eco-friendly and healthy solutions for cleaning glass shower doors can work as well—without harmful ingredients.”

The Maids’ best recommendation is to use a kitchen staple – lemon – to clean the shower glass door.

Lemon smells refreshing, and it cleans well, but what should you do with it in order for it to work effectively?

“Combine three tablespoons of lemon juice and one cup of water in a spray bottle,” The Maids instructed.

“Spray your glass shower doors and the frame thoroughly and let the mixture break down the scum and stains for five minutes.”

The next step is to “wipe everything with a clean sponge, then dry and buff the glass and frame with a microfibre cloth”.

Another professional cleaning service, Molly Maid, warned hard water stains can be “tough to remove, especially after they have been sitting for a while”.

Molly Maid suggested cutting a lemon in half and dipping it in salt; the salty lemon is then used to scrub away stubborn hard water stains.

The expert’s best cleaning tip, however, is to prevent hard water stains from settling on the glass shower door in the first place.

A good preventative measure includes using a squeegee in the shower to wipe down the glass doors after a shower.

“Apply a hydrophobic coating to keep water spots off the glass,” Molly Maids added, such as a shower screen protector.

HG Shower Screen Protector, for example, can be bought on Amazon for £10.64, or Ritec Shower Glass After-Care for £12.01 at Dortech Direct.

Molly Maid added: “Install a water softener. This is a more expensive solution, but it will solve many other problems.”

Installing a water softener is said to reduce “mineral buildup on your shower glass and the insides of your pipes, faucets, dishwasher, showerheads, and more”.

As for how often glass shower screens should be washed, Molly Maid strongly recommended a once weekly deep clean.
