Grubby grout is commonplace in kitchens and bathrooms and is often caused by soap scum, food debris, limescale and grease.
Using improper cleaners can also cause tile grout to become discoloured which is why it’s important to use the correct cleaning method.
Now, Mrs Hinch fans have shared their go-to method for cleaning discoloured tile grout.
Chlo Louise asked the Facebook group, ‘Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips’: “Hey! We’ve only had our kitchen tiles for a month or so, the grout is getting discoloured from grease and it’s driving me mad.
“Does anyone know what I can use to try to clean it? So far I’ve tried Elbow Grease spray, washing up liquid and Astonish kitchen spray but no luck!”
The post was inundated with responses but bleach was the most suggested solution.
Laydee J Thomas said: “For light discolouration, dip a toothbrush into a solution of one-part water to one-part bleach and use it to scrub along the grout.
“Leave for a few minutes and then rinse with water. For heavier staining, make a stiff paste of bicarbonate of soda and distilled white vinegar.”
Vikki Durnin-Rogers commented: “Water mixed with bleach and scrub with an old toothbrush.”
Samantha Mockford replied: “We had the glass back on the back of our cooker so this wouldn’t happen. Try bleach spray and leave for a while then wipe off.”
Jo Webb wrote: “I have exactly the same tiles and I use Flash Bleach spray which removes them. After I cook I just washed them all down with that and the grouting looks perfect. Hope this helps.”
Bleach can be bought from The Range for 55p, Sainsbury’s for 70p and Waitrose & Partners for 75p.
Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included using Astonish Mould and Mildew spray, HG grout cleaner and a tile protection spray.
Pam Wyatt commented: “Astonish Mould and Mildew spray, it works on my kitchen floor tiles.”
Christine Marlow replied: “HG grout cleaner, small stiff brush and a steamer!”
Elaine Bowers suggested: “I use Astonish Mould and Mildew on the grout in my bathroom and behind my cooker. It whitens the grout really quickly, no scrubbing it either.
“Just leave it on then wash it off,I use it in my toilets as well. Magic stuff.”
Danielle Walker wrote: “You can also buy tile and grout protection spray to stop this happening in future.”
