Mulled wine is a classic drink which is enjoyed over the festive season. Whether someone goes to a Christmas market or the supermarket to enjoy the festive drink, it’s always a hit.
This recipe comes from Spice Kitchen and is their version of the popular beverage.
According to the website, it reads: “Warm, spiced, and deeply fragrant, this classic mulled wine brings holiday cheer to every sip. Make it your own by adding a splash of spiced rum, gin, or whisky, or go alcohol-free with apple juice.”
For those who want to create their own mulled wine at home, it is pretty easy to do and only takes five simple steps.
Even better, individuals can go alcohol-free by swapping out red wine for some juice. However, for those who want to add a splash of spiced rum, gin, or whisky for an extra kick and boozier version then they can.
Method:
Firstly, prepare the base. In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, clementine juice, and all the spices. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.
Next, infuse the flavours by placing the saucepan over low heat, then pour in about 100ml of red wine. Gently simmer (avoid boiling) for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the spices to infuse fully.
Then add the wine. Pour in the rest of the wine, keeping the heat on low. Warm gently for 10 more minutes without boiling to preserve the wine’s flavour.
Finally, remove from heat, discard the whole spices, and pour into heat-proof glasses or mugs.
