City named the world's sunniest with over 4,000 hours of sunshine a year

This city has been named the world’s sunniest city with more than 11 hours of sunlight per day in winter and 13 per day in summer.

It has a total of around 4,000 hours of sunshine per year.

Yuma, in Arizona, is the sunniest place on earth, according to the World Meteorological Organization.

It promises sunshine and warm weather at least 91 percent of the year

Despite sounding like paradise for some, it is actually quite unpleasant, according to locals.

Its more than 90,000 inhabitants have to combat an arid climate, typical of the Sonora desert, which it forms part of.

Rainfall does not exceed 200mm per year and temperatures exceed 40C practically 100 days per year.

The sunny city is situated between Phoenix and San Diego, offering big city vibes with a small town feel.

But being the world’s sunniest city comes with its perks as visitors and residents get to enjoy activities such as jet skiing, boating or hiking almost all year round.

Yuma is also the winter vegetable capital of the world, producing 91 percent of leafy greens eaten in North America during the winter.

It is the 11th largest city in Arizona, with an estimated population of 93,064, according to the 2010 consensus.

But the population also nearly doubles from January to March with sun-seeking visitors looking to escape the cold weather in other states.

Yuma is also home to the Marine Corps Air Station that houses thousands of Marines and their families.
