Cheltenham Festival 2025 LIVE RESULTS: Day three latest updates and Templegate’s tips for St Patrick’s Thursday

Giles – ‘It means a lot’

After watching Marine Nationale’s victory, Michael O’Sullivan’s girlfriend Charlotte Giles continued: “Michael loved the horse very much, they started their careers together and went on a journey together.

“The horse has certainly put his heart and soul into today and it means a lot.

“Michael was certainly with him every step of the way and it was incredible to watch it.”

‘Michael was here with us’

It was an emotional day at Cheltenham as two horses previously ridden by late jockey Michael O’Sullivan were triumphant.

Marine Nationale and Jazzy Matty had both been winners before for O’Sullivan at the Festival and won again on Wednesday.

O’Sullivan’s girlfriend Charlotte Giles told The Telegraph: “Michael’s legacy will always live on.

“In moments like this, we get a great sense of, you know that he is here with us.

“I think it’s moments like this that show that he is here with us, and he’ll always be there with us.”

Grand ideas

It was an impressive day for Stumptown, who won the Cross Country by seven lengths.

But train Gavin Cromwell admitted he was “concerned” about a mile out from the finish.

He said: “I was very concerned for a while to be honest, but he’s run out a good winner in the end.

“I think [jockey] Keith [Donoghue] thought he wasn’t at his best either, but we’ll take it.

“He obviously loves the cross-country racing and Keith is definitely worth a few pounds around that track, that’s for sure.

“We’ll aim him at the Grand National.”

New star

The New Lion extended his unbeaten run to five with an impressive win in the Turners Novices’ Hurdle.

Trainer Dan Skelton said: “He’s a phenomenal horse and I’ve never had one like this.

The win sealed an 80th Festival victory for owner JP McManus, who bought the horse earlier this year.
