Here are Express Sport’s Chelsea player ratings:

KEPA 6

Great early save from Salah but did not seem his usual commanding self, with his distribution not always up to scratch.

AZPLICUETA 7

Did his best to offer some width but was largely concerned by Mane, who he managed with some success.

ZOUMA 6

His speed of thought and action was tested by Liverpool’s press and generally stood up to the challenge.

CHRISTENSEN 7

An important body in the way in crucial moments and did well to spot a lot of Liverpool’s danger early.

EMERSON 6

Struggled to keep tabs on Salah as most do. Seems to have the odd lapse of concentration in his make-up.

JORGINHO 6

Played a pivotal role in getting Kante further forward and was a vital cog in the first half. Faded slightly though.

KANTE 8

Chelsea’s best player – the debate will begin again over his best position but this is more what Sarri envisaged.

KOVACIC 5

Still seemed very rusty after the summer and was guilty of conceding cheap possession at times when Chelsea neededit.

PULISIC 7

However much Chelsea fans want him to be, he is not Eden Hazard, but he gave a pretty good impression at times.

GIROUD 7

Always seems to rise to the occasion in Europe even

against Premier League opposition. Took his goal well.

PEDRO 6

Some great passes around the box had Liverpool in trouble early in the game but lost momentum rather.

SUBS

Abraham 5

Looked confident when he came on but missed in the shootout.

Mount 7

Showed bright spots during normal time and hammered home his penalty.
