Violence has erupted in Bangladesh after a weekend of unrest saw nearly 100 people killed, while the country’s PM Sheikh Hasina has been forced to resign and flee her official residence.
Her current whereabouts are unknown after weeks of unrest, bringing an end to her 15 years in power.
Protesters have stormed her palace in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhanka, after protestors defied a military curfew to march through the city centre.
At least 14 police officers died in clashes in the capital on Sunday, according to the country’s leading Bengali-language daily newspaper, Prothom Alo, with the death toll rising to 95 so far.
Hundreds more were injured in the violence, which erupte after weeks of peaceful protests in June, which saw students fight to end the quota system for government jobs.
However, the country descended into chaos after clashes between protesters and police and pro-government activists at Dhaka University.
The government’s attempts to quell the demonstrations with force, curfews and internet shutdowns backfired, prompting further outrage as nearly 300 people were killed and leading to demands for Ms Hasina’s resignation.
