Carlos Alcaraz wants to go against his dad and do something he 'doesn't like'

Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that he is eager to go against his father’s wishes as he named his biggest goal for 2025.

The world No. 3 has already started his pre-season training block at home in Spain after reportedly making millions for playing two exhibition matches in America last week.

Alcaraz doesn’t have long to prepare as he revealed that winning January’s Australian Open is his biggest priority.

Aged just 21, Alcaraz has already won three of the four Grand Slams. His first Major came at the 2022 US Open. He followed it up by lifting the trophy at Wimbledon in 2023.Last year, he completed the ‘Channel Slam’ by winning the French Open and Wimbledon back-to-back. And he’s now eager to get his hands on the Australian Open crown to complete the set.

Alcaraz started an unusual tradition when he won his first Slam in New York two years ago, getting a tattoo of the date of the final. After his Wimbledon glory, he had a strawberry inked on his ankle, again with the date of his victory.

Earlier this year, he added to his unusual collection with a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower on his other ankle, plus the day he won his first French Open. Alcaraz is now hoping he can get one more design to commemorate an Australian Open triumph – even if his dad isn’t a fan.

“I am a very ambitious boy and I want more,” the world No. 3 told EFE ahead of the 2024 season.

“And Australia is what I want to get tattooed on me even though my father doesn’t like it very much. Being champion there is my main objective for next season.”

Alcaraz will not be playing any warm-up events ahead of the Australian Open, though he has signed up for some exhibition matches. The four-time Major winner is set to fly Down Under in the new year.

While he had already started his pre-season training block, he’s also looking forward to taking some time off at Christmas. He continued: “I’m starting a hard month of training but being at home for Christmas and New Year is wonderful and gives me a break.”

Alcaraz was set to practice with Jack Draper for a week, but the British No. 1 was forced to cancel his trip to Alicante after suffering a minor setback during his own training block. Italian tennis star Flavio Cobolli will still hit with the Spaniard.

The former world No. 1 has also had time to reflect on his season, admitting it was a “year of ups and downs” but still “positive”.

Alcaraz added: “I still get emotional when I watch the videos of Roland Garros and Wimbledon.”
