Car expert reveals cheap additive 'mechanics don't want you to know'

Top car mechanic Scotty Kilmer has opened up on the one affordable additive that garages “don’t want” drivers to know about.

According to Scotty, the liquid polymer solution has the power to repair rubber oil seal leaks, possibly saving vehicles from more serious issues.

Scotty said the reseal solution could prevent road users from having to replace their engines in what would amount to a massive saving.

The AT-205  bottle Scotty suggested can be purchased online for as little as £20 with engine replacements set to cost road users thousands.

Scotty issued the simple advice on his YouTube channel where he offers daily tips to road users.

The top mechanic said: “Today I’m going to show you how a little bottle of sealer might be able to fix oil leaks on your car. It’s called AT205 reseal.

“You can see it’s clear. It’s not water, it’s a liquid polymer. Now if you pour it in an engine that has rubber oil seal leaks, it can fix them.

“It can rejuvenate the rubber and stop the leak. This is a metal head gasket It will not fix leaks in that, only in rubber parts.

“You can pour it in the engine oil, even power steering systems and it doesn’t hurt the system but just realise one thing, it’s not a miracle.

“If the gasket has actually broken apart or has fallen out of its hole, this isn’t going to fix anything.

“But let’s say the rear main oil seal in your engine is leaking, trying this sure beats pulling the engine out of your car and replacing it.”

Excessive pressure is one of the main causes behind damage to the crucial vehicle oil seals. Chemical erosion is also a major factor with solutions gradually causing the rubber to swell.

Mechanical friction is also an issue with vibrations and external impacts all likely to damage the component.

Road users took to the comments section to praise Scotty for the advice with many admitting it had worked when applied to their own models.

YouTube user @fredericcriqui4400 said: “I tried this last week after oil change, and it stopped the leak after driving 250 miles. Thank you.”

@ryanisaac9744 added: “Just tried this in my ’05 Honda Pilot for rear main seal. After 4 days of driving no more leak! Very happy to learn about this product!”

@brucebagg2395 commented: “Thanks for sharing this Scotty. I used some in my wife’s RX330. Lexus Power Steering with 220K miles and prevented me from replacing the steering rack!”
