The June 18 Nintendo Direct conference was absolutely jam-packed with new game announcements, from high-profile first-party games like Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, to colourful remakes such as Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven and Dragon Quest HD. However, the game that I’m most looking forward to is Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection Arcade Classics, which is pencilled in for a 2024 release date on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Steam. Following on from the likes of Capcom Beat-em-Up Bundle and Capcom Fighting Collection, the upcoming retro gaming compilation contains a host of Capcom and Marvel crossover titles, including the excellent Marvel vs Capcom 2 – which is probably my most played PS2 and Dreamcast game from back in the day.
As you can see from the trailer below, Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection Arcade Classics contains a grand total of seven games, each with a host of new features and quality of life upgrades.
The line-up includes X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, X-Men vs Street Fighter and beat-em-up The Punisher.
In terms of enhancements, each fighting game will feature online multiplayer, including ranked, casual and lobby matches.
The online modes will feature “robust Rollback Netcode”, which should guarantee a strong and stable experience with very little lag.
Likewise, the games will feature global leaderboards, as well as training modes across all of the fighting games.
That’s on top of a Spectator Mode to watch how the experts do it, as well as in-game museums, music jukebox and a variety of display filters.
Elsewhere, you’ll be able save and load at any point (which should help with those boss battles), and switch to one-button combos to make things easier.
There’s no word on an exact release date, other than a general 2024 launch. Likewise, there’s nothing about an Xbox release, so stay tuned for more information.
Headlining a surprisingly busy end of 2024 for the Nintendo Switch, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is coming to the console on September 26.
The game sees Princess Zelda take the lead, after various characters fall foul of a mysterious portal spreading across Hyrule.
Zelda will be able to create copies of various items, which can be used to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles. For example, if you’re unable to reach a high platform, you can conjure copies of tables or chairs to create platforms.
Other games showcased during the event include Mario and Luigi Brothership, which launches in November. That’s on top of Metroid Prime 4, which makes an appearance after nearly a decade.
The Metroid Prime sequel will launch for Nintendo Switch in 2025, and don’t be surprised if it also shows up on the Nintendo Switch 2.
