British tourists warned as Spain and Portugal already just days away from 31C heatwave

Tourists planning to jet to Spain and Portugal this month are “very likely” to face sweltering temperatures of more than 30C, despite it not being the summer season, according to forecasting guru Jim Dale.

Weather predictions from Netweather.com show parts of the south and south east of Spain could see the mercury rise to 34C on April 14.

Meanwhile in Portugal, although the temperatures aren’t quite as high, the southern regions of Faro and Bera could see close to 30C on April 14, according to the Netweather.com prediction.

Mr Dale told this website that he was only “mildly worried” about the prospect of a scorching April in Spain and Portugal, adding that he was “more worried” about the prospect of temperatures north of 40C in May.

He said climate change was “unravelling in front of our eyes”.

Valencia and Murcia in the south east of Spain, two areas of the country very popular with Brits, are areas that could see 34C on April 14, according to Netweather.com.

Seville is another area that could see temperatures climb above 30C.

The stifling temperatures are concerning because the average temperatures in April in Andalusia, where the famous Costa del Sol is, are usually around 15C to 20C, according to airline Tui.

Seville is, according to the Met Office, likely to see temperatures around 28C on April 5 and 25C on April 6 and 7.

Marbella, which is a firm favourite among Brits, is set to be similarly toasty. On April 5 it is set to be 24C and 26C on April 6 and 7, although there may be some cloud cover.

Benidorm won’t be quite as warm, although it’ll certainly be hotter than the UK. On April 5 it is set to be 21C, while on April 6 and 7 it’s set to be 22C and 23C respectively.
