British Gas launches new energy bills deal to save households up to £450 a year

British Gas has launched a new energy offer which could save households up to £450 when switching to a heat pump.

Customers can access the heat pump tariff add-on by choosing any British Gas tariff. The electricity used by the heat pump will then be discounted to 14p/kWh for the first twelve months.

The offer is available to all British Gas Energy customers with any brand of air source heat pump installed by British Gas before September 31, 2024.

According to the energy provider, the offer could make heating a typical home with a heat pump up to £450 cheaper than a D-rated gas boiler in the first year.

Gail Parker, low carbon homes director at British Gas, said: “Affordability is a key factor when considering home heating, and as households look to make the switch to heat pumps both install and ongoing running costs will be important in their decision-making.

“By introducing our new market-leading heat pump rate we want to make heat pumps more affordable and provide customers with more certainty that by making the switch to a heat pump it will help their pocket as well as the planet.”

The Heat Pump rate has been designed to provide lower running costs and make heat pumps a more affordable option for home heating.

British Gas offers heat pump installations starting from £499 for those eligible for Government grants of £7,500 in England and Wales as part of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

It follows British Gas’ latest research, with UK homeowners saying that reducing their energy bills is their biggest priority when it comes to their home heating.

According to the research, cheaper heat pump tariffs will help to convince nearly four in 10 (37 percent) homeowners to adopt a heat pump in the future.

The average cost for a heat pump installation including a government grant is now £4,415 which includes installation plus additional heating system upgrades that may be required in the home.
