Debenhams bosses have taken out a company voluntary arrangement that will involve 22 stores closures next year.
The list of branches affected includes Altrincham, Ashford, Birmingham Fort, Canterbury, Chatham, Eastbourne, Folkestone, Great Yarmouth, Guildford, Kirkcaldy, Orpington, Slough, Southport, Southsea, Staines, Stockton, Walton, Wandsworth, Welwyn Garden City, Wimbledon, Witney, Wolverhampton.
As many as 1,200 jobs are on the line as a result of the announcement.
Debenhams chairman Terry Duddy said: “Our priority is to save as many stores and as many jobs as we can, while making the business fit for the future.”
