Bomb squad swoops on primary school after ‘artillery round’ brought into grounds with children & teachers evacuated


A BOMB squad has swarmed a primary school after an “artillery round” was brought onto school property as students were evacuated.

Cops raced to Frederick Nattrass Primary School, in Cleveland, at 10.50am this morning after a projectile was thought to be in the grounds.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived with emergency services and students were quickly removed from the premises.

Staff and locals were also urged to vacate the area and members of the public have been warned to avoid the school.

Cops remain at the school while the artillery round is being dealt with.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said:  “Officers are in attendance at Frederick Nattrass Primary School in Norton after what is believed to be an artillery round was brought into the school grounds.

“Police were called at around 10:50am this morning, Wednesday 26th March, and they remain at the scene whilst liaising with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD).

“Children and staff members have been evacuated from the school as a precautionary measure, along with members of the public at nearby business premises, whilst the item is made safe.

“Members of the public are advised to avoid the area whilst emergency services deal with the incident.
