Authorities on Tuesday asked for the public’s help as they investigated the death of a man whose body was found on a popular beach in Cape May, N.J.
The 50-year-old man’s body was discovered on Monday by Cape May Police Department officers on patrol at Cove Beach, near the end of Beach Drive.
The man’s identity was not immediately released, and it’s unclear how long he had been dead.
Authorities closed the beach between Cove Pavilion to Cape May Point State Park as they investigated the incident, asking for the public’s understanding as they tried to unravel the man’s fate.
A few hours later, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland announced the death had been classified as “non-suspicious,” and that the preliminary investigation had revealed “no foul play is involved.”
Nonetheless, Sutherland encouraged anyone with information on the matter to call his office or the Cape May Police Department, or to file an anonymous report at the county prosecutor’s website tip line.
