Subway service was suspended in Manhattan on the No. 4, 5 and 6 lines Friday morning as police responded to reports of a body on the tracks near E. 28th St., sources told the Daily News.
An official alert from the MTA said trains were not running on the Lexington Ave. line between Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and the E. 86th St. station as police and emergency medical services were responding to a report of a person hit by a train.
Sources told The News, however, that police were in the process of investigating human remains on the track, and it was unclear how or when they ended up there.
Cops received a 911 call reporting an unconscious person on the tracks at the 28th St. station around 9:30 a.m., law enforcement sources told The News.
EMS declared the body, found on the northbound express track, dead on the scene.
Police said the body remained unidentified Friday morning, and they were unable to determine the sex of the deceased or a cause of death.
Northbound No. 5 trains were routed up Manhattan’s West Side over the No. 2 line from Nevins St. in Brooklyn to 149th St.-Grand Concourse in the Bronx.
