Blur star slams Oasis 'opening act' announcement with sassy reply

The Britpop chart battle continues – as Blur guitarist Graham Coxon told Liam Gallagher he needs to ‘get a decent band’ for the Oasis tour next year.

Legendary guitarist Coxon eclipsed Oasis in the charts in the highly publicised chart battle between the two bands, and has since replied to Gallagher’s announcement of opening acts on the UK tour.

Blur star Coxon, now heading up The Waeve with partner Rose Elinor Dougall, responded to Liam Gallagher’s tweets unveiling the opening acts for Oasis’s UK and Ireland tour leg.

Gallagher, 52, hinted that Richard Ashcroft of The Verve might join the iconic siblings on their much-anticipated reunion tour in a tweet.

However, Coxon suggested Oasis “get a decent band in” for the gigs, proposing groups like the one that outperformed Oasis at the height of their stardom.

Gallagher had taken to Twitter/X to share the potential lineup for performances in Edinburgh, London, and Manchester, stating: “Richard Ashcroft or Manic Street Preachers as support.”

He later confirmed Ashcroft’s involvement in another tweet: “Just spoke to the CHEF here it is OASIS RICHARD ASHCROFT CAST you are welcome see you next year I’m off to to identify as a massive c*** LG x.”

In response to Gallagher’s initial tweet asking fans to pick between the Manic Street Preachers and Ashcroft, Coxon quipped: “Really? Get a decent band in – Supergrass? Blur? Hhahah. [SIC].”

Notably, Supergrass is celebrating their hit debut ‘I Should Coco’ with a 30-year anniversary tour, while Blur triumphantly headlined two sold-out shows at Wembley last summer.

Fans are already buzzing with anticipation for the potential Oasis reunion, but the idea of a Blur and Oasis tour partnership has taken many by surprise, sparking hope among enthusiasts. One fan expressed their excitement on social media: “The people want a Oasis and Blur tour! Would be a dream.”

Another chimed in, referencing a quote tweet from Liam Gallagher himself, who had previously floated the idea of an “old dears” tour featuring both bands: “I love Blur and at some point we have to do n old dears tours [SIC],” he suggested.

In response, one fan suggested: “Why not an Oasis Blur double headline tour? Headliner switches each night.” And another eagerly added: “Make it happen Graham.”
