Attending a sporting event averages £133 and hosting a barbecue adds up to £119.

The report delves into the expenses associated with special events, revealing that a typical day at a zoo or theme park for a family of four can set you back by £236, covering entry fees, tickets, travel, and mementos.

The average Brit is set to shell out £4,485 this summer, having received invites to 29 events from May through September and planning to attend 26 of them, according to the latest Household Money Index (HMI) from MoneySuperMarket. This ‘summer socialising bill’ comes despite household bills and expenses reaching their highest levels in nearly a year.

Recent data reveals that the monthly cost of 31 household bills and expenses has surged to £1,525.30 or £50.84 per day marking a 9.58% increase from £1,392.00 in February. This means the average Brit is now £20 worse off each month.

If they were to accept every invitation to weddings, BBQs, festivals, and naming ceremonies this summer, they would be looking at an expenditure of £4,902 roughly £980 a month.

This figure is £314 more than the average UK monthly disposable income of £666, as reported by MoneySuperMarket’s HMI, which monitors what people in the UK are spending on a basket of 31 bills and outgoings each quarter.

The latest HMI also indicates that the typical wedding guest will spend £446 attending the nuptials of friends and family this year, while participating in a hen or stag party will cost them £397. Festival-goers can expect to pay an average of £470, while each naming ceremony will set them back £128, reports the Mirror.

Kara Gammel, a personal finance guru at MoneySuperMarket, commented: “You’ve heard of the summertime blues, but this year people are experiencing the summertime dues. Good weather brings invitations to celebrations and we all want to make the most of the longer days and chance to get out with friends and family. But the cost of weddings, gigs and festivals can add up – not to mention days out with the kids over the summer holidays.”

She also highlighted a perk for SuperSaveClub members, saying: “Our SuperSaveClub members can enjoy free days out, as well as earning cash rewards, discounts and perks. How you spend your rewards is up to you. It could be a paddling pool to keep the kids entertained or a new tent for that festival you’re going to.”
