Some shoppers may rejoice at the prospect of doing the big Christmas food shop, while others dread it.
Navigating packed supermarket aisles in search of festive staples requires careful planning and a fair bit of time.
As for where to shop, many Britons beeline for their favourite supermarket, whether it be one of the “Big Four” or their budget rivals.
According to a new study, however, Sainsbury’s is the best retailer for your Christmas needs.
Known for its orange and white branding, the British supermarket boasts an impressive reputation for all things festive, leading a ranking of five major brands named by Britsuperstore.
The study, which also ranked Ocado and Lidl in the top three, analysed more than 100,000 Trustpilot reviews for the keyword “Christmas” and calculated four- and five-star reviews as a percentage of total reviews.
An impressive 28 percent of Sainsbury’s reviews were designated four or five stars, with Ocado close behind with 21.6 percent four or five-star reviews.
Sainsbury’s also garnered the highest percentage of five-star reviews out of the 10 supermarkets analysed in the study.
As for what Sainsbury’s shoppers say on Trustpilot, one person wrote: “Sainsbury’s usually do pretty good, if things aren’t quite right they quickly sort it out.”
Another customer claimed that the “offers are amazing”, adding: “We have already stocked up on some meat and toys for Christmas.”
Some shoppers criticised the supermarket delivery service while others criticised “long queues” and busy checkouts in store.
Ocado earned four and five-star reviews for being a “go-to at Christmas” for “when you really do not need an important item to be missing from your order”. Other customers praised the “friendly and helpful” delivery drivers.
However, late deliveries were a common problem reported by Ocado shoppers.
Budget retailer Lidl took third place with 21.3 percent top-rated Christmas shopping reviews. Meanwhile, industry giants Asda and Tesco, complete the “Big Four,” while Morrisons failed to place in the top five.
