A SHOPPER ditched a Best Buy store for Amazon after being forced to wait “forever” to pay.
The customer used social media to slam the major US retailer, which then responded to the embarrassing jab.

The complaint was posted on Monday by an X user going by Jose.
It read: “@BestBuy I hate going to your store anymore because we wait forever to pay. I would rather buy from Amazon.”
This can be seen as a particularly heavy blow to Best Buy, as Amazon only does deliveries and would take longer than waiting in a line at the store.
Best Buy responded: “Hello, Jose! Thank you for taking the time to connect with us on Twitter/X!
“I can fully understand the desire for a quick and smooth check out process once you have what you need.
“I would be more than happy to formally document your experience and would like to hear any feedback you might have.
“To get started, please reach out via DM with your name, phone number, and email address. Thank you.”
This Best Buy reply is considerably longer than the ones that most major retailers give to customers.
Typically, a store reply will simply direct the customer to a feedback form.
The complaint is not specific about how long they had to wait to pay for the item, or how many they had.
The US Sun also reported on a major change coming to Best Buy very soon, as it looks to expand its operation and refine the customer experience.
Best Buy‘s CEO Corey Berry revealed that the company is rolling out more small format stores.
These have less products in them, aiming to simplify the shopping experience and tailor the locations with specific products.
The company introduced its “small-format, digital-first store” concept back in 2022 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
This was a 5,000sq ft location aimed at creating a curated selection of products for shoppers.
Latest self-checkout changes
Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed up checkout times and reduce theft.
Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at various locations were made available only for Walmart+ members.
Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed during specific hours, and more cashiers were offered instead.
While shoppers feared that shoplifting fueled the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.
One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would stop the fiercely contested receipt checks.
However, that test run has been phased out.
At Target, items are being limited at self-checkout.
Last fall, the brand surveyed new express self-checkout lanes across 200 stores with 10 items or less for more convenience.
As of March 2024, this policy has been expanded across 2,000 stores in the US.
Shoppers have also spotted their local Walmart stores restricting customers to 15 items or less to use self-checkout machines.
This is part of Best Buy‘s moves to maintain its physical footprint while cutting down on cost.
Berry said: “To be clear, we’re not remodeling every store in the fleet.
“But what we are doing is taking, I would argue, kind of a stronger position than we ever have to ensure that the shopping experience reflects that kind of excitement and that sparkle that technology brings to life.”
The outlet Investing.com reported on Best Buy‘s sold end to 2024.
Its revenue reached $13.9 billion, highlighting a 0.5% growth in comparable sales.
Comparable sales are the sales generated by a location, not online.
Best Buy also recorded digital sales that accounted for 40% of its domestic ones.
