BBC anchor quits News at One as she announces brand new gig in major hosting shakeup


A POPULAR BBC News star has confirmed she has stepped down from one gig with the broadcaster in order to land another huge role.

Journalist Anna Foster has confirmed she has left her position as the anchor of BBC News At One for an even bigger job with the Beeb.

She has been a regular face at the BBC for years

Her role on the lunchtime news show came after stints hosting the News at Six and the News at Ten.

But she is now turning her back on the TV news bulletins in order to become a leading presenter on BBC Radio 4’s long-running flagship programme, Today.

From next month, Anna will be in the roster of main presenters on the programme which broadcasts to millions every morning.

She will undertake her hosting duties from both London as well as the BBC’s base in Salford at MediaCityUK.

Speaking about bagging her new role, Anna said in a statement: “There are few more exciting opportunities for a journalist than presenting Today, and I’m thrilled to be joining the team.

“I’ve always loved making important, agenda-setting, engaging radio, and there’s nowhere better to do that.

“It’s such a beloved programme to so many people, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Owenna Griffiths, the Editor of the Today programme, added of Anna’s appointment: “Anna is an exceptional broadcaster and tenacious journalist.

“She’s already a really familiar and popular voice for so many listeners from her years presenting on 5 Live and reporting from the Middle East. I’m thrilled she’s going to join us at Today.”

Anna has been a journalist with the BBC for more than 20 years after joining in April 2002 and she spent a number of those years as the broadcaster’s Middle East correspondent.

it saw her based in Beirut and working all across the region including broadcasting from the scene of the Turkish earthquake using just her own phone.

She has also reported from war-torn areas in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria and in recent years has covered events connected to the Israel-Gaza war.

Anna has also presented on the Drive show for BBC Radio 5 Live as well as being a former reporter at BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat.
