Barnes & Noble, the famed bookseller, has been in the midst of a comeback in recent years.
The New York-based bookstore chain recently announced that it plans to open 60 new stores in 2025.
Now, the company appears to be banking on an even wider range of entertainment.
A user on social media shared the news that their local Barnes & Noble had just introduced a section for physical media.
The user posted a photo to a the Physical Media Collectors Facebook group.
In the photo, shelves can be seen carrying DVDs, Blu-Rays, and vinyl records.
A sign designates the section “Movies & Music.”
FAN REACTIONS
Numerous users commented on the post, which received more than 1,700 reactions.
The original poster submitted photos of his DVD and vinyl record hauls from the store.
“OH BOY!! Now get ready to pay ridiculous prices,” said one user.
“Remember back in the 90s the whole back of B&N was filled with movies and CDs if you couldn’t find a title you could pretty much find it there or Best Buy,” one user wrote.
“They used to have quite an impressive section way back when,” said another.
“The one on the plaza in Kansas City, MO had a whole downstairs section devoted just to music and movies back in the 90’s until about 10 years ago.
“It’s still there but is mostly vinyl with the outer shelves being mostly pillow pets and junk.”
Another user offered an explanation as to how the store shelves its merchandise.
“There’s three different sizes of Barnes & Noble which will dictate how much physical media is there,” the commenter wrote.
The user explained that boutique-size stores are usually based in malls and do not carry physical media.
Medium-size Barnes & Noble stores only carry new releases, as well as small quantities of Criterion Collection and Arrow titles during sales.
The large stores, according to the user, are the only ones to carry physical media in full-size sections.
“Some are better than others but that is the basic layout of Barnes & Noble,” the user wrote
“If you don’t know what size they are, call first, any major city usually has one or two large stores within the 10 mile range.”
