Barcelona star Lionel Messi has insisted the club’s dressing room room were not against the signing of Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid.
Reports suggested the Argentina international and other players were sceptical about signing the World Cup winner due to how he refused to make the move 12 months ago.
But Messi, speaking to Catalonian newspaper Sport, has insisted that was never the case.
Yet he did admit he’s yet to get a chance to know the France international due to being sidelined through injury.
“Very little, the truth is that very little because since I arrived I am injured, I train on the sidelines,” he said.
“I don’t train much with the group.
“They went on tour and when they returned I shared very little in the locker room. But in training I am not.
“We will have the opportunity to share many things.”
Messi also provided backing to Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde, who was criticised for his failure to win the Champions League last term.
“When these things happen, everyone thinks of the worst because the objectives are not met and something similar to the previous year had happened,” the Argentina international added.
“Although I think this occasion was even worse.
“Everyone imagined that would happen. As I said at the time, it was our fault.
“The coaching staff had nothing to do with the game we did. Until then we had a great season, dominating the league from start to finish, qualifying for the Cup final. And it was more our thing than the coach.”
Finally, Messi was asked about his future.
Barcelona chief Josep Maria Bartomeu recently confirmed the player was free to leave at any time due to his years of loyal service.
And Messi said: “Actually, I cannot confirm anything because in the contracts there is a confidentiality clause that nothing can be said.
“If I spoke I would be breaking that clause.
“Yes I can say that I want to be in Barcelona as much as I can, do my whole career because this is my home.
“I also don’t want to have a long contract and stay here because I have a contract, but because I want to be physically well, play and be important and see that there is a winning project.
“I want to keep winning things in the club, I want to keep getting important things. And for me the clause or the money means nothing.
“I move for other things. The most important thing for me is to have a winning project.
“The contract was made long ago. My idea is to continue here as long as I am able to perform and that the physicist allows me to.
“Then, as is my contract is not something that worries me or I handle it, because my dad takes it with the president or with whom I have to talk. I only transmit my thoughts.”
