Former Sauber team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi may reportedly partner with Lewis Hamilton as the Brit targets an investment in MotoGP. The seven-time F1 world champion has been linked with acquiring a team as he looks to capitalise on Liberty Media’s takeover.
Alunni Bravi acted as Sauber’s ‘team representative’ in 2024 as the Hinwil-based squad opted against naming an official team principal. However, following Jonathan Wheatley’s arrival from Red Bull, the Italian’s future became unclear, and he opted to leave the squad rather than move into another role.
“As I move on to a new project, I want to thank Finn Rausing, all those who put so much trust and faith in me at Sauber and Audi, and all the colleagues I have been working with for the last eight years,” he said. “This team is a family and has a bright future ahead.”
Now, the details of Alunni Bravi’s ‘new project’ are more apparent. According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 50-year-old has been ‘helping’ Hamilton register interest in MotoGP teams.
Greg Maffei, former CEO of Liberty Media, revealed that the company’s purchase of MotoGP provoked an influx of celebrities interested in investing in or purchasing existing teams. He named Ferrari star Hamilton among this group.
“We had immediately people call up and say, ‘I want to buy a team’, including people like Lewis Hamilton,” he stated. “Why? Because they saw what had happened in Formula 1, and they want to follow.”
Hamilton has been open about his interest in buying a MotoGP team. The Brit is already a stakeholder in the Denver Broncos NFL franchise and is looking to expand his portfolio. “I’ve always loved MotoGP,” he said at the British Grand Prix during the 2024 campaign. “I’m interested in the potential growth of the sport, but I haven’t looked that far into it just yet.
“But anything is possible. I’m definitely interested, as I said before, about equity and the [Denver] Broncos was already a first step into team ownership. And so, I think over the next five to 10 years, there will be a little bit more. We’ll see.”
Hamilton’s business interests extend beyond sports teams. The Brit helped found a vegan fast-food chain, Neat Burger, and has his own alcohol-free tequila brand, Almave. Alongside these initiatives, he runs his own clothing company, Plus 44, releasing limited capsules between race weekends in collaboration with notable designers.
