Novak Djokovic makes history this week by being the world No 1 for the 250th week in his career.

The Serbian is just the fifth player to reach the historic landmark after Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, Ivan Lendl, and Jimmy Connors.

If the 31-year-old is still top of the rankings by June 2020, he will surpass Federer’s record of 310 weeks.

Rafael Nadal remains second ahead of this week’s Madrid Open and is now followed by Roger Federer, who moved into third after Alexander Zverev lost at the BMW Open last week.

Remarkably, Djokovic, Nadal, and Federer are once again the top three players in the world, 12 years since they first topped the rankings.

With the Madrid Open and Italian Open back-to-back, the fight for a top-four seeding at the French Open will take place between Federer, Zverev, and Thiem.

Elsewhere, Stefanos Tsitsipas moves up one place to ninth after winning the Estoril Open on Sunday.

John Isner drops to tenth as he continues to recover from a stress fracture in his left foot.

Cristian Garin, who won the BMW Open has risen to a career-high of 33, while the man he beat in the final, Matteo Berrettini, is at 31.

Lucas Pouille moves to 28 after winning a Challenger Tour title in Bordeaux.

German veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber drops nine places to 50 while Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is up eight to 93.
