At least 55 people treated after LA metro train crashes with USC bus

Dozens of passengers were injured in Los Angeles on Tuesday after a passenger train collided with a bus transporting an unknown number of University of Southern California students.

The crash happened shortly before noon in the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the USC bus was westbound on Exposition, negotiating a turn onto USC Watt Way when it collided with an MTA train traveling westbound on Exposition,” police said on social media.

The Los Angeles Times said two of the 18 people transported to area hospitals were in critical condition. The bus driver and one of its passengers were reportedly injured seriously. Another 37 people were treated on the scene for lesser injuries.

Cops said “a couple of dozen” passengers were aboard the train.

ABC News said Tuesday’s lunchtime crash occurred when a USC shuttle bus crossed paths with a Metro E Line train. That line operates between between Santa Monica and East Los Angeles.
