Authorities on Thursday confirmed a body was discovered in a car pulled from the Cooper River in Camden County, N.J.
At least two rusted vehicles were pulled from the water and appeared to have been submerged for a significant time, ABC affiliate WPVI reported. The discovery was made around 3 p.m. along Route 130 in Pennsauken, roughly eight miles east of Philadelphia.
News helicopters captured the scene from above, showing several police vehicles and tow trucks near the river as dive teams retrieved the cars from the water.
The body of one unidentified person was found, a source told NBC affiliate WCAU, but no further details have been released.
There’s also no word on how long the vehicles had been there or how they may have ended up in the river. The investigation is “active and ongoing,” according to prosecutors, who assured the public that there is no danger at this time.
