When Jemima Packington told Jeremy Vine that the US would have their first female president after American voters go to the polls on November 5, few took her seriously. After all, Ms Packington claims to be able to predict the future using asparagus.
The fortune-teller, known as ‘Mystic Veg’, told Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2 on July 17 that the next president of the United States would be “a lady”.
This was prior to President Biden’s sensational announcement tonight that he would not be seeking a second term in office, appearing to succumb to mounting pressure from his own side to step aside in light of his worsening cognitive performance.
The 67-year-old told the veteran broadcaster when asked whether it would be “Biden or Trump” to win the presidency: “Right, I’m going to tell you it’s neither of them.
“It’s a lady, now I keep on getting this. It’s going to be a lady. The next president of the United States is going to be a woman.”
For those sceptical as to the mystic powers of Ms Packington’s asaragus, she is reported to have correctly predicted Brexit and Queen Elizabeth II’s death using her vegetables.
That said, she also claimed to know that football was coming home – prior to England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euros final in Berlin.
Asparagus prediction or not, Vice-President Harris is intent on securing the Democratic nomination for the presidency, after President Biden’s endoresment.
Taking to X, she wrote: “On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country.
“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination.”
