Arrests made during pro-Palestinian protest near Sen. Schumer’s Brooklyn home

Numerous arrests were made as pro-Palestinian Jewish groups protested near Sen. Chuck Schumer’s Brooklyn home Tuesday.

Demonstrators gathered in Grand Army Plaza around 5:30 p.m. on “Schumer’s doorstep” to demand the U.S. stop arming the Israeli military, according to progressive activist group Jewish Voice for Peace.

Police were called to the plaza, where “multiple” arrests were made, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

Police officers arrest protestors near the home of US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in the Brooklyn borough of New York during a demonstration by pro-Palestinian Jewish groups on the second night of Passover calling on Schumer to stop arming Israel amid its retaliatory assault on the Gaza Strip on April 23, 2024.

Up to thousands of protestors from various Jewish groups were in attendance for the “emergency Seder” during the second night of Passover, according to posts on X.com.

A Schumer spokesman did not immediately answer a request for comment.

Earlier Tuesday, the U.S. Senate approved a bipartisan funding package that included $26 billion to aid to Israel and fund relief efforts for Gaza.

“This is one of the most consequential measures Congress has passed in years to protect America’s security and the future of Democracy,” Schumer said in a post on X. “Tonight, America sends a message to the entire world: We will not turn our back on you.”

It wasn’t immediately clear how many people were arrested as police continued to monitor the protest.
