New Jersey law enforcement officials are searching for an armed female suspect accused of robbing a TD Bank in Princeton Sunday afternoon.
Security footage from several angles shows the suspect wearing a medical mask and red-framed glasses while placing a handgun on the counter in front of a teller around 3 p.m. Another image shows her leaving the bank, carrying stacks of cash in both hands.
“The suspect approached the teller counter, displayed a black semi-automatic handgun and presented the teller with a note demanding money,” according to the Princeton Police Department.
Surveillance video from a nearby Exxon gas station on Route 206 shows the alleged robber walking past a short time later. She was wearing a blue distressed baseball cap, white shirt, khakis and sandals.
Authorities described the alleged robber as a heavyset Black woman between 35 and 45 years old, who stands at around 5-foot-7. They asked for help identifying the woman on social media Tuesday.
It’s unclear how much money was stolen. The FBI field office in Newark hasn’t responded to a request for comment.
While the majority of bank robbers are men, the FBI saw the number of women sticking up tellers increase over time.
In 2005, females accounted for 6% of bank heists, according to the Orlando Sentinel. A decade later that number jumped to 7.5%. Doing so has reportedly become easier with many bank workers simply following a robber’s instructions if that demand is scrawled on a note.
