AMERICANS could grab a slice of a $2.5million overdraft settlement – and don’t even need any proof to cash in.
The money is being handed out by Apple Federal Credit Union to settle a class action lawsuit over claims it imposed unfair charges.

Claimants allege the company wrongly charged overdraft fees on ATM withdrawals, transfers and debit card payments.
According to the lawsuit, the fees were “authorized positive but unauthorized negative”.
In applying the charges, the company allegedly broke promises in its account agreements.
Apple Federal Credit Union is a financial firm based in Virginia.
It serves more than 200,000 memebers.
The union in not admitting any wrongdoing through the settlement – instead choosing to settle with financial payments to affected customers.
The settlement will benefit customers who have or had a checking account with Apple Federal Credit Union and were charged overdraft fees between January 7, 2021 and March 31, 2024.
Eligible class members can each receive a cash payment based on the figure they payed in overdraft fees.
Those who were charged $100 or less will receive a proportional share of the total settlement pot.
And those charged more than $100 will receive the same – capped at a maximum of $100.
The final approval hearing is set for June 17, 2025.
And no claim form needs to be submitted.
Class members who do not exclude themselves from the suit will automatically receive the cash.
If you do wish to exclude yourself, the deadline in April 20, 2025.
Meanwhile, some Americans are due to get checks worth up to $10,000 soon – but it depends on where they live.
The direct payment opportunity comes as part of a class action lawsuit filed against a city government.
Plaintiffs in the suit accused the City of Oakland of not having adequate cybersecurity measures to prevent a data breach in 2023.
That would be Oakland, California, only 13 miles east of downtown San Francisco with a population of over 440,000 residents.
That breach exposed personal information in the City of Oakland’s systems, including Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, medical records, and more.
And hundreds of Americans are eligible for a chunk of a multi-million dollar payout after a data breach.
Members of the labor union UNITE HERE filed a class-action lawsuit against the organization after their personal information was compromised in the data breach in 2023.
Eligible class members can get up to $5,000 from the payout with just one document.
