AMERICAN Idol fans are not impressed after ‘the wrong person was saved’ in last night’s episode.

The hit show, which is currently in its 23rd season, is nearing the end of the current series after selecting the Top 7 on Monday night.

But with the Top 7 confirmed, this meant that one singer was axed – and not everyone agreed with the outcome.

On Monday night, the eight singers performed for a place in the next round.

Breanna Nix, Gabby Samone, Jamal Roberts, John Foster, Josh King, Mattie Pruitt, Slater Nalley and Thunderstorm Artis all performed for the judges.

Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood then made their selections as to who should be saved and make it to the Top 7.

After performing, Mattie Pruitt and Josh King found themselves in the bottom two.

Mattie had sung Always Been You by Jessie Murph, and Josh had sung Home by Michael Buble.

The final result then saw Mattie make it through to the Top 7, and Josh brutally sent home.

But during the axing, fans were quick to say how the wrong person went home.

“Mattie absolutely didn’t deserve the save on #Americanidol tonight. Josh was better tonight and she has been mediocre the past two weeks,” said one opinionated fan.

Another added: “Josh was honestly one of the best and most refreshing voices (an old voice but refreshing in the way that we haven’t heard in mainstream for a while) that we’ve heard in a long time.

American Idol fans notice Carrie Underwood subtly shade Miranda Lambert during performance and beg ‘have her on more!’

“Shame to see him go. SUCH a talent.”

SWEET GESTURE SPOTTED

Meanwhile, other fans were quick to spot a very sweet gesture that Josh made.

Fans spotted how Josh told the judges to save Mattie, with many praising the young man for giving up his spot on the show.

“Josh was literally so sweet for telling them to save Mattie,” said one viewer.

Who are the past American Idol winners?

The previous American Idol winners include:

“Josh wanted them to pick Mattie,” penned a second.

“Awww Josh was telling them to choose Mady #americanidol I’m sorry for saying you should been went home,” added a third.

While a fourth wrote: “Josh…clearly a bigger person.”

CARRIE’S ‘UNENTHUSIASTIC’ REACTION

This comes after fans spotted how judge Carrie looked less than impressed when fellow country singer Miranda Lambert performed on the show recently.

Miranda recently appeared on the show as a guest to perform her hit song Kerosene.

Rocking out to her country hit on stage, Carrie could be seen on the panel, nodding to the music.

As she nodded away, Carrie kept her face straight and stoic as she bopped to the beat.

Carrie could have shown a little more enthusiasm for Miranda,” said one person on Instagram at the time.

While another said: “Someone needs to tell Carrie that her inside thoughts are on the outside…”

American Idol airs Sunday and Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. The episode then streams the next day on Hulu.
