American Airlines flight skids off snowy Chicago runway in chilling video

An American Airlines flight with 41 people aboard slid off a snowy runway in icy conditions while landing at O’Hare International Airport on Monday – but no one was hurt in the scary, caught-on-video incident.

Flight 4125 — an Embraer jet inbound from Greensboro, North Carolina — landed on Runway 10L about 7:45 a.m. and was heading to taxiway P4 when the right main landing gear collapsed, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro said.

Chilling footage from passenger Joseph Lian posted to social media shows the plane turning sideways before sliding off the runway as a wing hits the ground.

“I think we landed!” one passenger is heard saying amid sighs of relief.

The Chicago Fire Department removed everyone from the plane and took them to a gate in a bus, department spokesman Larry Merritt told the Chicago Sun-Times. No one was injured.

The airport recorded surface winds of 22 mph and gusts in the 30s with “light snow blowing” around the time of the incident, according to the National Weather Service. At least 1.6 inches of snow had fallen.

“After landing, American Eagle flight 4125, operated by Envoy Air, slid off the runway due to icy conditions at Chicago O’Hare,” American Airlines spokeswoman Sarah Jantz told The Post in a statement.

“All 38 passengers and three crew members were deplaned from the aircraft and are now safely back in the terminal,” she added.

A few passengers reported that the visibility was bad.

“That was our second landing attempt,” passenger Shaun Steele told the local ABC affiliate.

“The first one, we went back up after we noticed conditions were bad. We made a loop for about 20 minutes…As soon as we landed, we could start feeling something a little off there and we tried to do a little turn and that’s when we started going sideways,” Steele added.

“There was no visibility at all,” said another passenger, Luis Torres Curet. “The first visibility of the city we got it maybe 50 feet from the ground? That’s dangerous. You don’t need to do that.”

He accused the airline of putting passengers at risk by landing in unsafe conditions.

“The conditions here were very bad. It was windy and it was icy,” he told CBS Chicago. “They should have known that. There was ice on the road, there was wind coming across. They attempted one landing. It failed, and they came back and attempted again, and we’re lucky that we had a very competent pilot there that knew what to do.”

Curet said passengers could feel the pilot zig-zagging the aircraft on the runway to try and stop it before the landing gear snapped.

“Then the plane actually went sideways, and then the wing – the actual right wing – stopped the plane from capsizing once we got off the runway,” he said.

More than 600 flights were canceled into and out of O’Hare on Monday, and hundreds more were delayed, according to FlightAware and the Chicago Department of Aviation.

Last year, the FAA issued a warning to the Windy City over its handling of several weather-related mishaps at O’Hare between 2015 and 2016, including an instance in December 2015 in which crews allowed planes to continue using Runway 10L when pilots reported deteriorating conditions.
