Aldi admits beloved freezer dessert discontinued only a year after launch – but reveals there’s a way to get it back

ALDI has admitted that a beloved freezer dessert has been discontinued after only one year.

The news is not all doom and gloom, however, as there is a way to ask for it back that involves you.

The discovery came in an exchange on the social media platform X, as the official Aldi account broke the solemn news.

In its short life, fans loved the Sundae Shoppe Jumbo Ice Cream Sandwiches, but it wasn’t long before they disappeared from shelves.

According to Aldi Reviewer, the product was first spotted in July 2024 at $3.99 for a box of six.

The ice cream treats came in two main flavors, cookies & cream and vanilla.

But, they were cut down in their prime for unknown reasons, and one Aldi customer found out about the loss recently.

The hungry shopper asked Aldi on X: “@AldiUSA When are you bringing back the Sundae Shoppe Jumbo Ice Cream Sandwiches?”

This was posted on Tuesday.

But one simple question brought a barrage of disappointment.

Aldi replied to the post: “Sadly, no news on our Sundae Shoppe Jumbo Ice Cream Sandwiches returning.

“Our team would love to hear that you’re missing them!

Walmart and Aldi could be forced to change policy after self-checkout bill put forward – but Costco would be exempt

“In the meantime, be sure to check out some of our other cool ice cream treats in stores now!”

The company left a link to a feedback form, suggesting that it’s open to bringing them back if enough people want them.

There are more silver linings, as one reply to the thread confirmed that regular and mini sizes of the desserts are still available.

It is not known why Aldi discontinued the product.

Fans were excited for the release of the treats back in July.

How to cut the cost of your grocery shop

BELOW are some tips on how to reduce the amount you spend on groceries.

  • Write yourself a list – Only buy items that you need. If it isn’t on your list, don’t put it in the trolley
  • Create a budget – Work out a weekly budget for your food shopping
  • Never shop hungry – You are far more likely to buy  more food if your tummy is rumbling
  • Don’t buy pre-chopped veggies or fruit – The extra they’ll charge for chopping can be eye watering
  • Use social media – Follow your favourite retailers to find out about the latest deals
  • Be disloyal – You may want to go to different stores to find the best bargains
  • Check the small print –  It’s always worth checking the price per kg/lb/litre when comparing offers so you’re making a like for like decision as a bigger box won’t necessarily mean you get more
  • Use your loyalty cards – Don’t be afraid to sign up to them all. They all work slightly differently – work out what bonus suits you better and remember to trade in your points for additional rewards

On the r/Aldi Reddit thread, several announced their intention to buy a box for themselves.

One person said: “I need!”

Another added: “Cool! Sounds like a dupe for Fat Boy ice cream sandwiches.”

These two comments were posted seven months ago, but in February, someone asked where the sandwiches had gone.

A concerned citizen said last month: “Are these gone?! My kids love them but we haven’t seen them in like two months at several locations?!”

One Aldi shopper did suggest a reason why they had gone, believing that they were only meant to be a seasonal product.

This has not been confirmed by Aldi.
