Adrian worry revealed for Liverpool – ‘There’s a reason he wasn’t in the West Ham side'

Adrian was named in the Liverpool starting XI for the UEFA Super Cup clash against Chelsea on Wednesday.

It was the Spaniard’s first start for the club after joining on a free transfer in the final week of the transfer window.

Adrian is set to benefit from the calf injury suffered by Liverpool No 1 Alisson in the first Premier League game of the season against Norwich.

Cole played alongside Adrian briefly during their time together at West Ham.

He is confident the 32-year-old can be a solid replacement for Alisson.

However, Cole pointed to the fact Adrian was not a regular in the West Ham side for the last couple of years of his time in east London.

“Yeah I know him well, we spent some time [together] at West Ham,” Cole said on BT Sport.

“He’s a really good goalkeeper, he’s excellent on the ball, his distribution’s great.

“I worry for him, not worry for him tonight, but I think this will be the biggest game he’s played in.

“He’s gone to Liverpool, he’s gone there knowing he’s going to be No 2.

“Some goalkeepers get to a certain and they settle for that and now he’s going to be thrown into the lion’s den.

“He can be rash, he’s very talented, he won’t have no problem receiving the ball and playing out of the back, I think he’ll be fine with that.

“But I just worry about him because he’s not as experienced as you’d want a goalkeeper in a game like this.

“You know you want decision-making as a goalkeeper to be on point, here at West Ham he’s umming and ahing and he gets caught.

“There’s a reason that he wasn’t in the West Ham side at the back end of the season and they tried to sign goalkeepers to replace him.

“He has got talent, he’s definitely got talent.

“For him, this is definitely the biggest game of his career.”
