If you’re guilty of whacking out the bleach to deep clean your home, or you’re someone who reaches for the mould spray, rather than a natural alternative, one woman wants you to listen up and pay attention to her.
Leona, who posts on TikTok under username @_leona_11.11, asked followers: “You see all this stuff?”, as she held up bottles of chemical products, claiming that it’s “f***ing with you” thanks to all the chemicals packed in it.
“Chuck it in the bin”, she urged people, as she said: “Yeah alright, maybe they smell nice”, but she thought that was the only benefit to them.
She then offered an alternative, saying: “We, together, right now, are going to make a nice, natural, non-toxic, all-purpose cleaner, okay? It’s absolutely inexpensive and much better for you.”
Leona said: “We’re gonna start off with some vinegar – get yourself a bottle, plastic, preferably glass because that’s better okay? But we’re gonna start off with some vinegar and I’m just gonna fill quite a lot – I’m gonna do half because you know why? Vinegar is very inexpensive”.
She’s not wrong, as white vinegar can be purchased from some supermarkets for as little as 35p. “The more you put in, the better”, Leona shared.
She then said that you need to “top it up with water”, then she said it’s time to “add some other ingredients to make it smell nice”.
Leona popped some lemon essential oil into her vinegar and water mix, adding 11 drops of it because 11 is her “favourite number”.
She then added peppermint, as “if you want things to smell nice”, that’s the best one in her opinion, saying it makes the whole house smell “so fresh and so clean”.
She then wanted to add some lavender into the mixture, for a “calm, relaxing environment in your house”.
“Then, when you use it, you just give it a little shake, and what you can do is squeeze half a lemon in it as well”, she suggested.
In the comments, someone warned: “Please be careful with essential oils if you have pets. Do a Google before use to check it’s safe!”
Another wrote: “Peppermint also deters insects they don’t like it, I even put it in my mop, didn’t have spiders in sept”.
“Baking soda white vinegar and lemon juice for everything”, a cleaning lover penned.
Someone was sceptical about what the concoction smelled like, however, writing: “I’m wondering what those four smells smell like mixed together. Vinegar, peppermint, lemon & lavender”. She clarified it just smelled like “peppermint”.
