Rodgers’s release was official at the start of the new league year on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Eastern.
The Jets revealed their intentions to release the four-time NFL MVP a month ago and don’t plan to announce the procedural move, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
Rodgers can now sign with any team, including the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, who have reportedly expressed the most interest in him.
Both teams need a quarterback, and the Minnesota Vikings have also been deemed a possible destination for the veteran signal-caller.
Rodgers isn’t the only star quarterback for whom the Steelers and Giants are waiting for a signing decision.
Russell Wilson is an option for the two teams, as he traveled to visit the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday night, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The report added that the 36-year-old will then visit the Giants’ facility on Friday.
