Aaron Rodgers make decision over his future with NFL Draft 2025 set to have huge impact on quarterback’s destination

AARON Rodgers has yet to decide on his future, and the 41-year-old will reportedly take his time.

Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP quarterback and current free agent, was officially released by the New York Jets last week.

Rodgers has been recently linked to three NFL teams – the Minnesota Vikings, Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.

However, with the veteran Rodgers’ next team still undecided, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport shared that his decision might not happen until the 2025 NFL Draft, which is on April 24.

“Do you draft someone? That’s about a month away, so all of us would like this done sooner rather than later. I don’t get the sense that Rodgers is in any kind of hurry at all,” Rapoport said.

“Could it drag out all the way to the draft like it did two years ago? Maybe it could.”

The report means that Rodgers’ decision could be after the 2025 NFL Draft.

If that’s the case, the Giants, who hold the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft, could have their franchise quarterback in place after the event.

They are players for Rodgers but could look to draft Colorado Buffaloes signal-caller Shedeur Sanders, who is expected to be a top-10 selection.

Rodgers would then have options in the Steelers and Vikings.

The future NFL Hall of Famer has been targeted by both teams, but he is “hoping to sign” with the Vikings, per The Athletic.

The Vikings have been contemplating adding Rodgers after their 2024 starter, Sam Darnold, signed a three-year, $100 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks last week.

They are also weighing the option of signing Rodgers and how that would affect second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy – the team’s 2024 first-round pick.

McCarthy suffered a torn meniscus that ended his rookie campaign.

The Green Bay Packers legend Rodgers led the Jets to two disappointing seasons.

The most recent campaign saw him record 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns, which is third in the Jets’ franchise history.

Aaron Rodgers’ Career – From Packers’ Glory to Jets Dysfunction

Aaron Rodgers will try to forget his New York Jets tenure after a legendary career with the Green Bay Packers.

Aaron Rodgers will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer thanks to his 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers.

The 2010 Super Bowl MVP has numerous accolades, including earning 10 Pro Bowls and winning four NFL MVPs, among others, and Packers team records, including the most passing touchdowns by a quarterback (475) and quarterback rating (103.6).

Rodgers will always be a Packers legend but after winning his second consecutive MVP in 2021, the team missed the playoffs in the 2022 campaign.

He requested a trade in the following year and would get his wish as the New York Jets acquired his services in April of 2023.

The move echoed the path of Rodgers’ predecesor, Brett Favre, who spent 15 seasons with the Packers before being traded to the Jets.

Unfortunately for Rodgers, he suffered a torn left Achilles on just the fourth snap of his first game with the Jets.

The veteran played a full season in 2024, but managed to lead Gang Green to a measly 5-12 record.

Rodgers did record 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns – the third-most in Jets franchise history.

But he was 30th in completion percentage and 25th in total QBR.

The 41-year-old was officially released by the Jets on March 13 – a transaction that was anticipated after the team revealed their intentions to move on from him last month.

Rodgers will be a free agent for the first time in his 20-year NFL career, and the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants have been linked to him.

However, Rodgers was 30th in completion percentage and 25th in total QBR.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell and company will have to decide between signing a 41-year-old vet or giving the keys to a 22-year-old youngster in McCarthy.

They won’t be in the running for free agent Russell Wilson, who met with the Giants and Cleveland Browns last week.

Wilson is also an option for the Steelers – the team he played for in 2024.
