Rodgers met with the Steelers at the team’s facility last month but left without a contract.
The four-time NFL MVP entered the meeting after reports were uncovered that he prioritized joining the Minnesota Vikings.
However, the Vikings didn’t feel the same way, as general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mesnah confirmed that the team had conversations with Rodgers but aren’t actively pursuing him and is instead expressing their faith in 2024 first-round pick JJ McCarthy.
On Monday, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer leaked Rodgers’ personal free agent to the Vikings.

Rodgers reached out to head coach Kevin O’Connell and brought up the idea of a “one-year run at a Lombardi” while providing a special proposal for McCarthy and his development.
“When the four-time MVP reached out the Vikings,” Breer wrote, “with the idea of making a one-year run at a Lombardi and trying it to being a willing mentor for McCarthy, the team felt it had to listen.
“The proposition, of course, was different than the other two- they’d be jamming the pause button on the idea of playing McCarthy, rather than generating competition and multiple quarterback options.”
The Vikings took time to think over Rodgers’ offer of being the team’s QB1 but ultimately chose to give the keys to McCarthy.
Minnesota is rolling with the younger, in-house option in McCarthy, who missed the 2024 season after tearing his meniscus in the preseason.
The Vikings are coming off a 14-3 season in which Sam Darnold put together a career season, but the franchise chose to let him pursue a long-term contract somewhere else.
Darnold signed a three-year, $100.5 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks.
Rodgers has yet to sign anywhere yet as he reportedly wants to join a team with playoff chances.
The Steelers, who made the playoffs last season with a 10-7 record, seem like a good option.
However, the future Hall of Famer Rodgers could also be contemplating retirement.

He’s coming off two disappointing seasons with the New York Jets – the last one saw him lead the team to a 5-12 campaign.
Rodgers recorded 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
All eyes will continue to be on Rodgers as the 2025 NFL Draft approaches.
The 2025 NFL Draft will take place on April 24.
