B&M has slashed the price of a giant Cadbury Easter egg to £5 and it’s the cheapest on the market

B&M has dropped the price of a huge Cadbury Easter egg to £5 and it’s the cheapest out of the major retailers.

The Dairy Milk Chunky Ultimate egg has been discounted by 50% from £10, meaning the cost per 100g is £1.25.

The pack comes with an extra thick chocolate egg and bag of individually wrapped Cadbury Dairy Milk chunks.

Shoppers keen to buy the egg for a loved one this Easter will have to head to their nearest B&M store as you can’t order it online.

You can find the B&M branch closest to you by visiting www.bmstores.co.uk/stores and entering your postcode.

The retailer says stock is low though so you’ll have to be quick and bear in mind your local branch might not be selling it at all.

We looked at how much other retailers are selling the same Cadbury egg for and B&M’s works out significantly cheaper.

Asda, Morrisons, Ocado, Tesco and Waitrose are all selling the XL egg, but the cheapest price is at Asda where it is £12.98 – almost £8 more expensive.

Morrisons is selling the egg for £14 while Ocado, Tesco and Waitrose are all stocking it for £15.

It’s worth bearing in mind, supermarkets and retailers often launch discounts and offers on chocolate eggs in the run up to Easter.

The chocolate egg market is a lucrative one for the sector.

According to personal finance comparison site Finder, 80million Easter eggs are sold in the UK each year.

It’s worth keeping an eye out on all the latest deals so you can get the best price.

Check out websites like LatestDeals.co.uk and HotUKdeals.com for some of the best offers across the retailers.

Keep an eye out for retailers launching multi-buy offers or deals exclusive to loyalty card shoppers too.

Morrisons this week was offering More Card customers five 96g Cadbury Easter eggs for £5, working out at £1 per egg.

How to save money on chocolate

We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don’t have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…

Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.

Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.

They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.

So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

How to save money at B&M

Beyond keeping an eye out for discounted products, it’s worth downloading the B&M scanner app.

It’s free to download off the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

It lets you use the camera on your smartphone to scan barcodes in store to find out the true price of a product.

Sometimes it tells you a price which is lower than advertised on the barcode.

Shoppers using the scanner app have previously found products for as cheap as 10p.

It’s worth signing up to Facebook pages dedicated to hunting for bargains from B&M and other discounters too.
