EDF Energy customers can make £878 in savings by ditching and switching to one of its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs.
The energy supplier said it will give customers £50 cashback upfront to anyone who signs up this November, adding that its tariffs will save drivers up to £828 over the course of a year.
The limited time deal is part of EDF’s drive to help drivers charge their electric cars for less money, but customers must sign up this month to get the free £50.
EDF said the offer of the £50 cashback means that its GoElectric Overnight and Pod Point EV Exclusive tariffs will become the cheapest options on the market. This is based on the consumption of an average EV dual fuel driver (2,700kWh at peak rates, 1,976 kWh at off-peak rates and typical gas consumption).
Customers have the option of switching to any of the suppliers EV tariffs – GoElectric Overnight, Pod Point EV Exclusive, EVolve and Pod Point Plug & Power – which all come with five hours of cheaper electricity every night between 12am and 5am for both customers’ homes and cars, and are backed by 100 percent zero carbon electricity.
EDF adds that, unlike some other EV tariffs on the market, all of its deals are compatible with all vehicles, regardless of their make or model.
The supplier says the average motorist that charges with its GoElectric Overnight will save £828 annually compared to petrol – so with the cashback included this would amount to a yearly saving of £878. And compared with using the public charging network, EV drivers charging with the tariff would save £752 – or £802 with the £50 cashback.
Rich Hughes, Director of Retail at EDF, said: “We are dedicated to helping customers reduce their energy costs while supporting the transition to electric vehicles and greener energy.
“This deal means we’re offering two of the most affordable EV tariffs in the market by giving customers £50 back in their pocket. Plus, with all our tariffs offering competitive off-peak rates, we hope it will encourage more drivers to drive electric and save cash and carbon in the process.”
To be eligible for the £50 credit, new or existing customers need to sign up for any EDF EV tariff throughout November. The credit will then be applied to their account within 30 days of signing up.
Customers are required to have a smart meter and be opted into half-hourly meter readings to sign up for any of EDF’s EV tariffs. More information can be found on the EDF website.
