Now streaming on Netflix UK, the crowd-pleasing comedy 17 Again featuring Friends legend Matthew Perry and superstar Zac Efron has been made available to British fans.
This iconic film, which first tickled audiences in 2009, may have received a tepid response at its inception, but it has triumphantly endured as a staple teen flick of our era.
The plot centres around a disenchanted Mike O’Donnell (played by Perry) facing imminent divorce, who is inexplicably granted the opportunity to return to his youth, reincarnated as his 17-year-old self (Efron).
With the tragic loss of Perry last year, legions of Friends enthusiasts have been binging the timeless series to honour his memory – but they should not overlook his stellar performance on the silver screen now that 17 Again graces their Netflix catalogue.
One ardent critique shared on Letterboxd exclaims: “If you were to ask me about the 2009 comedy 17 Again starring Zac Efron, I’d probably say I like it”, reports the Mirror.
“But if you were to ask me on a deeper level, I’d say it’s a masterpiece and never fails to bring a smile to my face.
“I’d say Zac Efron’s acting has always been underrated and every choice he made while filming this is top tier and I fear his comedic timing is absolutely immaculate.
“I’d say it should have been a bigger career defining moment for him and I am flabbergasted some people did not recognize his game until last year.”
“Starting the year off right…. ugh they just don’t make it like this anymore,” lamented one nostalgic film buff.
Someone chimed in with high praise, declaring, “People probably think I’m being ironic when I say I love this movie but it’s a goddamn masterpiece.”
A five-star Google review review spilled over with adoration: “A cinematic masterpiece this was such a great movie, the plot was great. There was romance, Action, and Greatness.
“This movie is very underrated the actors were great. This has changed my life after watching it and I have seen it 17 times and will see it again. Thank you for this movie.”
Additional comments included swooning adulation, “Makes me laugh, makes me cry. Zac Efron is completely adorable.
“17 Again is my go to feel good movie. Husband loves Ned’s humor which is a huge bonus! One of my top five favorite movies!”
