The EU country named the 'rudest' population – full list with Britain included

A European Union country has been dubbed the “rudest” in a survey, with a recent poll on TikTok seeing Britain finish in the top 5 and an old foe coming top.

The survey showed that Mexico is believed to be the friendliest country in the world, with its people said to be “friendly and hospitable.”

Germany was voted as the fifth rudest country on Earth, with its people said to be “moody, angry and not very welcoming.”

In fourth place was the UK, with its sense of humour and sarcastic mannerisms highlighted as being a key factor for those who voted for it.

The video explains: “Their sarcastic, pessimistic and extroverted attitude can come across as extremely rude to those who are not familiar with British culture, particularly when they visit other foreign countries as tourists.”

Austria is a surprisingly strong competitor and despite not being famous for its rudeness, it placed third thanks to its people’s lack of love for “conversation or eye contact in public.”

Whilst Austria might come as a surprise, the top two are long-standing challengers for the crown of ‘Earth’s rudest countries.’

France edges Russia out to claim the crown of the rudest country on Earth, just as it did in 2012.

More than a decade ago, Travel website Skyscanner.com conducted a similar survey where once again France was voted the rudest country on the planet, with Russia in second.

Speaking at the time, Skyscanner’s travel editor Sam Baldwin said: “We were surprised to see Russians come in second place.

Tatiana Danilova, Skyscanner’s Russian Market Manager explained how perceptions of Russians are based largely on Russian tourists in the Mediterranean.

She added: “The Russian language is not as polite as English, so when Russians translate directly from Russian to English, it can sound rude to an English speaker even if they don’t mean it to.”

Of the French, Baldwin doubted that even they would refute their reputation as the rudest nation on Earth.

He said: “As our closest neighbours, there has long been a familiar rivalry between the UK and France.

“Even the French acknowledge that the way they are perceived is not entirely without basis.”
