'Quick and easy' scones that 'melt in the mouth' take 10 minutes to make – no oven needed

Whether it’s simple and sweet or savoury cheese delights you’re after, this easy and versatile recipe is your ticket to homemade scone heaven – and could save a few quid compared to the shop-bought versions.

Farmersgirl Kitchen blog’s very own Janice Pattie has let us in on her top pick for air fryer-ready scones.

“This quick and easy recipe makes four delicious scones that simply melt in your mouth,” says Janice.

“Serve them for afternoon tea with jam and cream, or eat these delicious scones straight from the air fryer with lots of butter.”

Janice sings praises of the air fryer’s baking benefits: “Opting for an air fryer over a traditional oven can be a game-changer; it heats up swiftly due to its compact size and the fan, plus it’s roughly half as expensive to run. Scones bake best in high heat and the circulating heat in the air fryer helps to ensure they bake evenly all over,” she explains.

The must-try scones recipe requires just five minutes prep time and a mere 10 minutes in the cooker, reports the Mirror.

Here are the essentials you’ll need:

Ingredients

150g self-raising flour

Half a teaspoon baking powder

40g butter

25g caster sugar

60ml milk

Method

Kick things off by getting your self-raising flour into a bowl and mix in the baking powder.

Take the butter, chop it into manageable chunks, and work it through the flour mix until you’ve got something resembling fine breadcrumbs.

To complete the mix, stir in the sugar. Add the milk to your flour and butter mixture.

Combine until a soft dough begins to form, then use your hands to shape it into a ball.

Dust some flour on your work surface and roll out the dough into a flat disk about two-centimeter deep.

Use a scone cutter to carve out four scones, gently reshaping the dough to utilise all of it.

Place a sheet of baking parchment at the bottom of your air fryer and arrange the four scones on top.

Lightly coat the tops of the scones with milk using a pastry brush. Set your air fryer to 185C and bake the scones for 10 minutes.

Once done, remove them from the air fryer, let them cool on a cooling rack and serve warm with jam and cream.
