This Morning chef swears by 'heavenly' pasta sauce with surprising 'key' ingredient

Reaching for pre-made pasta sauce off the supermarket shelf for a quicker way to cook?

According to This Morning star Shivi Ramoutar, making the perfect pasta sauce is easier than you think, with ingredients that are probably already in your home.

Speaking to Reach PLC, the chef shared that as well as tomatoes and herbs, butter is a key ingredient for the much-loved dish.

She spilled: “I did a really simple tomato sauce, I did one really big onion and I sweated that down with butter and olive oil, so it was really caramelised and golden and really sweet.

“I then added oregano and fresh basil, I threw that in and a tin and a half of chopped tomatoes, and then let that simmer with some salt and some chilli flakes.

“My mouth is watering, it is so good and it’s a really simple way.

“It’s the butter, you’re cooking the onions down with the butter and it tastes fantastic, the tomato sauce, a bit of parmesan cheese… heaven.”

Shivi shared her tips ahead of World Pasta Day, celebrated on October 25th each year.

It was established in 1995 at the World Pasta Congress in Rome, and its purpose is to promote the culinary and cultural significance of pasta.

The day is celebrated with various events, promotions, and activities around the world, highlighting pasta’s versatility and its importance in global cuisine.

Various pasta-related events, such as cooking demonstrations, special menus in restaurants, and educational activities about the benefits of pasta, often mark the occasion.
